Modified Bitumen roofing is similar to rolled roofing and comes in 3’ x 33’ sheets that are stuck together using either; hot asphalt, torching the rolls or using roof coating. This material is very stiff, making it difficult to wrap around pipes, vents and walls, the number one problem being seam failure. Also, Modified Bitumen comes in various colors. The darker colors absorb heat, which can drive up cooling costs. The lighter colors reflect some of the sun’s rays, but there are more reflective options available.
