MENUMENU
A built-up roofing system is commonly referred to as a “hot tar or hot asphalt roof” and sometimes they are covered with gravel or they are left smooth. This type of roofing system is installed by alternating layers of tar or asphalt with 1-4 plies of felt paper (either organic or fiberglass) directly over insulation covered with a base sheet. There are also Cold-Applied Built-Up Roofs that are created using Cold-applied Asphalt Emulsion (cut with water) with plies of fiberglass felts.
The “conventional” built-up roofs are installed with mops or squeegees. This method takes lots of time and is therefore expensive due to the extra labor. The hot roofs also pose a safety risk during installation due to the heat of the material (350 degrees F), hazardous fumes, and vapors that are released. If gravel ballast is used, this adds extra weight to the structure of the building. It can be anywhere between 300 lbs. to 600 lbs. per square (100 square feet). Additionally, this type of roofing system without a gravel top layer is subject to UV degradation. This can cause the material to become brittle and crack. Once the material cracks, it will flake off and expose the felt plies to the elements, which will cause them to rupture, as shown below.
The Advantage Systems Commercial Roofing System offered by ACR1.COM Commercial Roofing is Seamless and Highly Reflective. The Modified Asphalt Mastic in our roofing system is reinforced with binders to resist cracking, and the Polyfiber membrane we use is 10,000 more flexible than organic or fiberglass felts. The highly reflective surfacing of our roofing systems reflect up to 85% of the harmful UV rays as well as the Infrared heat rays, thereby keeping the building cooler and the roof lasting longer.
Our Seamless roofing systems are manufactured right on your building. This process allows our roofing system to be custom fitted to your penetrations and wall flashings. Other roofing systems must be cut and seamed at penetrations & wall flashings. Seam adhesives are your total line of protection, when they fail you have leaks at the seams. The Advantage Systems commercial roofing system is one piece, no seams, and no seam failure.
Our Highly Reflective options also help lower your cooling costs. At ACR1.COM Commercial Roofing, we have a variety of highly reflective options, including:
